FANCY A PART IN ‘JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR’?

first_imgLetterkenny Musical Society returns to the stage of An Grianan Theatre on March 1st next year with a new production of Jesus Christ Superstar, the show that began its 16 year run of acclaimed performances.A Grianan Theatre in LetterkennyAs ever, the society begins preparations at St Bernadette’s School in September, with the first gathering at 8 o’clock on Wednesday September 2nd. This is a change from the traditional Tuesday night, and will remain the case for the duration of this run of rehearsals.Open auditions will be held for all principal roles, and there are also many other opportunities for character portrayal and one line solos. The main roles are Jesus, a tenor who needs to have a very wide vocal range, as well as being a very good actor. Judas is a key figure who features prominently, another tenor, but with more of a rock feel to his music. Mary Magdalene is a soprano, and is the only main female role, but there are many other smaller roles for women. Peter is a tenor, who sings a very important duet with Mary Magdalene, and ensuring their voices are well matched will be a priority in casting that role.Pontius Pilate is a baritone with a strong voice and a stage presence to march, Herod is a tenor, and also needs to have a keen sense of comic timing, and ideally, some experience of dancing. Simon Zealotes is a baritone / tenor whose song on the day Jesus and his followers enter Jerusalem is a vital one in setting the scene, and the other nine apostles are a mixture of male voices, from tenor to bass.Caiaphas, the high priest, is a bass, Annas, his side kick is a baritone / tenor, both are somewhat sinister and imposing, as are the other three priests who are also required.Of course, there are choral parts, with several crowd scenes and choruses, and a strong group of dancers will also be required. Anyone intending to audition for a role is being asked to look at YouTube or other services, learn a song from that character and be ready to audition on September 2nd. The hope is to have the show provisionally cast relatively quickly, and then get into rehearsals. For more information and the latest updates, go to Facebook and search for Letterkenny Musical Society Public Information Page. The show will be directed by Billy Patterson, and choreographed by Jessica Peoples, who joins the LMS for the first time. The Musical Director will be Mark Bradley, assisted by his brother Gerard, both of whom have had a long association with the society.FANCY A PART IN ‘JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR’? was last modified: August 10th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:donegalletterkennyLetterkenny Musical Societylast_img read more
